The CII has initial expertise in civil engineering, computer science, economics, electrical engineering, and engineering management and systems engineering. As an independent, university-funded department under the Office of Sponsored Program, this university center will provide long-term, sustained support and services to externally-funded projects and centers related to intelligent infrastructure. Example external centers include the 2016-awarded INSPIRE University Transportation Center (INSPIREUTC, $1.4M/year for 5 years) and the S&T portion of the 2016-awarded Mid-America Transportation Center (MATC, $2.6M/year for 5 years). To celebrate this milestone achievement for S&T research enterprise, a ceremonial event with governmental representatives, international guests, campus leaders, center directors, faculty and students was organized on August 8, 2019.
