Missouri S&T Ph.D. graduate wins $70,000 Laegeler Fellowship for solar farm protection research 

In December, Khanda started his conference tour by having his paper, “Parallel Vertex Color Update on Large Dynamic Networks,” nominated for the Best Paper Award at the 29th IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing, Data and Analytics.

Along with Khanda, collaborators for this paper included Dr. Xin Liang, a former S&T professor who is now at University of Kentucky; Dr. Sanjukta Bhowmick, an associate professor at the University of North Texas and Dr. Sajal Das, a computer science professor and the Daniel St. Clair Endowed Chair at Missouri S&T.

Researchers Present at the Transportation Research Board's Annual Meeting 

The Transportation Research Board’s 102nd Annual Meeting was held Jan. 8-12, in Washington, D.C. Dr. Jenny Liu and Dr. Xiong Zhang, James A. Heidman Professors in Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, and their research groups gave multiple presentations in both podium and poster forms in transportation infrastructure related topics. The podium and poster presentations include “Comprehensive Evaluation of Important Aspects of Triaxial Testing Using a Photogrammetry-Based Method,” “Evaluation of Thermal and Rheological Properties of Phase Change Material Incorporated Asphalt Mastic with Porous Fillers,” and “A Low-cost Photogrammetric Method for Measuring and Tracking the Continuous 3D Full-Field Deformations of Geosynthetics During Tensile Tests.”

Liu Elected President of International Association of Chinese Infrastructure Professionals

Dr. Jenny Liu, James A. Heidman Professor in Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, was elected to serve as the new president of International Association of Chinese Infrastructure Professionals (IACIP).

IACIP is a US-registered non-profit professional organization with its members working or studying in the fields of civil infrastructure and systems (CIS) and related areas who are interested in CIS development and related issues. IACIP aims to facilitate the advancement of knowledge and technology in the areas of CIS through education, technology transfer and research at an international level.

Zhang Chaired a Session, Presented at Geosynthetics 2023 Conference 

Dr. Xiong Zhang, James A. Heidman Professor of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering, chaired a session at Geosynthetics 2023 Conference and gave a presentation titled “Experimental Investigation on the Effect of Fines Content on the Drainage Performance of Wicking and Non-wicking Geotextiles” during the conference.

Liu Presents at Construction Institute Summit

Dr. Jenny Liu, James A. Heidman Professor of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, gave a presentation titled “Phase Change Material-incorporated Asphalt Mastic with Porous Fillers” at the American Society of Civil Engineers Construction Institute Summit 2023 The summit was held March 1-4 in St. Louis.

As the chair of the society’s Bituminous Committee, Liu also organized the mid-year committee meeting and two technical sessions, titled on “Materials Innovation for Sustainable and Resilient Asphalt Pavements” and “Current Practices in Asphalt Pavement Preservation and Construction” at the summit.

S&T professors named inaugural fellows of the Taylor Geospatial Institute

Two professors from Missouri S&T were recently announced as part of the inaugural class of fellows for the Taylor Geospatial Institute (TGI).

Dr. Joel Burken, Curators’ Distinguished Professor and chair of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at S&T, will serve as a fellow, as will Dr. Genda Chen, the Robert W. Abbett Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering. A total of five fellows were named.

Through this program, TGI institutions will be supported in recruiting and retaining high-achieving researchers in geospatial science fields, developing scientific leaders, and strengthening collaboration among the TGI members to accelerate the St. Louis region’s development as a world-renowned global geospatial center.
